This year the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was won by K. Barry Sharpless and Morten Meldal for the “click synthesis” and Carolyn R. Bertozzi for the “Bioorthogonal”. (Ramströn, 2022) It is very possible that this award began to take shape when Sharpless received his first Nobel 21 years ago (yes, as it sounds, this is his second Nobel in chemistry). Since then, he has expressed his conviction (Kolb et al., 2001) that chemical synthesis should stop precisely imitating natural molecules, and rather move towards simpler reactions that produce far fewer undesirable by-products and that due to their precision They were very efficient. |
