TI - A reappraisal of the microscopical appearance of the mycelial phase of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis

AB - The sporulation characteristics of the mycelial phase of 32 strains of P. brasiliensis was investigated. On yeast extract medium 23 of the strains produced arthrospores, arthroaleuries and aleuries. Sporulation was related to the culture media and to the age of the strain. Yeast extract medium proved superior to Sabouraud's agar; primary isolates and recent stock strains produced spores in varying numbers. The microscopical appearance of the sporulating structures is described.
