UN CUELLO VOLCÁNICO EN EL BORDE LLANERO

Abstract

Tradicionalmente se ha creído que en la Orinoquia no se presentaron eventos magmáticos durante el Cenozoico. Recientemente, sin embargo han tenido lugar algunos hallazgos en la vertiente de la Cordillera Oriental y el que se presenta en el presente artículo es el primero localizado en el piedemonte. El cuello volcánico de Guamal intruye una secuencia estratigráfica completamente diferente de la Cordillera.

Traditionally it has been believed that no magmatic events occurred in the Orinoquia during the Cenozoic. Recently, however, some finds have taken place on the slopes of the Eastern Cordillera and the one presented in this article is the first located in the foothills. The Guamal volcanic neck intrudes a completely different stratigraphic sequence from the Cordillera.
